Resident cycle parking

branded bikehangar

We know that finding space to store a bike at home, particularly in smaller properties, is difficult and can discourage people from taking up cycling or limit the number of bikes you can fit in your home.

From 1 April 2017 the annual charge for using a residential bikehangar will increase from £12.50 to £20.

Since launching the bikehangar scheme in 2014 we have subsidised the cost of installing, servicing and maintaining the bikehangars to ensure that residents can enjoy safe and low cost cycle parking. Unfortunately the funding which was used to subsidise these costs will no longer be available resulting in a rise in membership fees.

The new annual cost of £20 (equivalent to 38.5p per week) will be used to maintain the bikehangars and help ensure the reliability of cycle parking facilities borough wide, while also supporting the Council’s commitment to promoting sustainable forms of transport.

In 2015, we installed 30 secure cycle parking units called bikehangars on residential streets across the borough. So far they have been such a success that we have now had over 2,000 requests for additional locations.

We are working on rolling the scheme out to meet this demand and have now installed 100 bikehangars boroughwide.

We apologise that we have been unable to provide everyone with a space in one of our bikehangars. To address the high level of interest we are proactively seeking external funding to help us meet the demand and will keep everyone on our waiting list should we receive further funding.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience and will keep you informed with all developments.
