Summer Cycling School

JS_LT_045Get involved in this year's FREE Summer Cycling School. 

From led rides to four day training courses, the summer school is designed to help children gain confidence when cycling as well as providing a great day out for families.

Choose from:

Community Outdoor Group Training - four days

The Community Outdoor Group (COG) is run in partnership with London Met Police and British Cycling, and is a weekly cycling group for children looking to get into cycling as a sport.
We're working with COG to provide two four-day training sessions designed to give children a taste of the weekly group sessions, so they know what to expect if they choose to join.

About the training: this fun, sporty training will teach skills such as braking, balancing and speed control ideal for track racing.
Age group: 9 to 14
Location: Higham Hill Recreation Grounds
Dates:
- 1 to 4 August
- 8 to 11 August
Time: 2.30pm - 4.30pm daily

Bikeability, national standards training - one to four days

The Bikeability courses are designed to equip children with basic cycling and on road cycling skills. The courses will take place throughout August in Chingford, Leyton and Leytonstone.

There are two levels available:

Level One

- Playground based, off road group training
- Half day training
- ages 6 to 9
- Tuesday and Wednesday
- 11am to 1pm
- 12 spaces available.

Dates and locations:
Chingford Foundation School - 9, 10 August
Leyton Jubilee Park - 16, 17 August
Church Lane carpark, Leytonstone - 23, 24 August.

Level Two

- On-road training
- Four day training - must be available for all four days
- Ages 9+
- Tuesday to Friday
- 9am to 11am
- 8 spaces available
- Must have completed Level 1 Bikeability to take part in Level 2.

Chingford Foundation School - 8 to 11 August
Leyton Jubilee Park - 15 to 18 August
Church Lane carpark, Leytonstone - 22 to 25 August.

Half day complete beginner training

The complete beginner training is a fun two hour training sessions to teach children aged between 4 - 9 and who are new to cycling basic off road skills.

Age group: 6+
Location and dates:
Chingford Foundation School - 8 and 9 August
Leyton Jubilee Park - 15 and 16 August
Church Lane carpark, Leytonstone - 22 and 23 August
Times: There are six sessions organised at each location
Tues:  1.30pm to 3.30pm
Weds:  1.30pm to 3.30pm
Thurs:  1.30pm to 3.30pm
Thurs:  11am to 1pm
Fri:  11am to 1pm
Fri:  1.30pm to 3.30pm

Friday Family Rides

To coincide with the four day training sessions, we've arranged four two hour family led rides to give participants the chance to practice their new skills while exploring the borough with their family.

Age group: 6+

'Try a bike' all ability sessions

These sessions are great for children and adults looking to try out different types of bikes before making a purchase. From tandem bikes to trikes, there are lots of bikes available to try that suit all ages and cycling abilities including modified bikes for people with disabilities.

Age group: 6+
Location: Higham Hill Recreation Grounds
Dates:
5 and 12 August
Time: 12pm - 2pm

Bike maintenance 

We've arranged FREE mini maintenance sessions with our training partner Cycle Confident. These courses cover the mechanical basics to help you keep your bike safe.

The course will cover:
- Brakes
- Gears
- Puncture Repair
- “M Check”

Location: Low Hall Depot, Leyton (South Access Road entrance)
Dates: Saturday 20 August and Sunday 21 August
Times:
- 10am to 12pm
- 12.15pm to 2.15pm
- 2.45pm to 4.45pm
