Bikehangar survey

We know that finding space to store a bike at home, particularly in smaller properties, is difficult and can discourage people from taking up cycling or limit the number of bikes you can fit in your home.

In 2015, we installed 30 secure cycle parking units called bikehangars on residential streets across the borough. So far they have been such a success that we have now had over 2,000 requests for additional locations.

We are working on rolling the scheme out to meet this demand and are currently consulting on the next 60 locations across the borough in Highams Park, Cann Hall, Cathall, Chapel End, Forest, Grove Green, High Street, Highams Park and Hale End, Hoe Street, Lea Bridge, Leyton, Leytonstone, Markhouse, William Morris and Wood Street wards.

The bikehangar provides secure weather proof parking for six bikes and is the size of half a car parking space. The scheme costs £12.50 (per bike) per year to store a bike in one of the units, as well as a refundable key deposit of £25.

We are proposing to install bikehangars on:

Huddlestone Road, Cheneys Road, Elsham Road, Malvern Road, Frith Road, Millais Road, Melford Road, Marten Road, St John’s Road, Pennant Terrace, Livingstone Road, Abbotts Park Road, Albert Road, Claude Road, Richmond Road, Ashville Road, Cornwallis Road, Courtenay Road, Chewton Road, Hawarden Road, Woodville Road, Chester Road, Lancaster/ Goldsmith Road, Hamilton Road, Ulverston Road, Howard Road, Hibbert Road, Clementina Road, Markmanor Avenue, Blyth Road, Hitcham Road, Brewster Road, Manor Road, Farmer Road, Browning Road, Scarborough Road, Lister Road, Markhouse Avenue, Albany Road, Gosport Road, Ringwood Road, Clacton Road, Forster Road, Carr Road, Fleeming Road, Mersey Road, Jewel Road, Badlis Road, Borwick Avenue, Bemsted Road, Turner Road, Salisbury Road, Waverley Road, Chestnut Avenue South, York Road, Vicarage Road and St Barnabas / Wellesley Road.

If you live on these street's you will receive a letter inviting you to take part in the bikehangar survey. Your feedback is important to us and will help to inform the final decision on where the unit is located. Please complete our bikehangar survey by Monday 5 December 2016.
