Poetry and Pedalling

During this year’s Bike Week between 13 and 19 June 2016, we gave primary school children, in Waltham Forest, the opportunity to participate in our Poetry and Pedalling competition. This was a competition for young poets to show off their writing skills and their love of cycling.

Each entry, one short poem, could be about how much fun they have when out riding, include their favourite places that they travel to on a bike or explain why cycling is so good for them and the environment.

We had over 150 entries and it was very difficult for Cllr Clyde Loakes to decide which poems would be shortlisted and who would win the top prize!

Our winner was Zofia from Our Lady and St George’s Catholic Primary School. She is aged 8 and wrote a poem titled ‘Cool Cycling!’ She won book vouchers, a goodie bag and a cycling experience at the Olympic Velopark.

Abubakar from Longshaw Primary School and Kamran from Mission Grove Primary School were runners-up with their poems ‘My Bike’ and ‘I Like Bike Riding.’ They each won a book voucher and goodie bag.

All our shortlisted entries are below.

Well done everyone who entered, keep cycling!
